A classy send-off for Alan Mason

By David F. Rooney

Alan Mason had a terrific retirement party at the Regent Hotel on Thursday evening. It was attended by over 100 people, all of them appreciative of Alan’s tremendous efforts on Revelstoke’s behalf over the years.

Guests enjoyed champagne, beer and wine as well sushi and canapes. The party was put on by the City, with contributions from the Regent, Fred Beruschi, Community Futures, and other businesses and organizations.

Mayor Mark McKee was the very-capable Master of Ceremonies. He praised Alan and his work, while finding opportunities to inject a little humour into the event.

Alan’s wife, Janet Lemieux, received a lovely bouquet of flowers from Maureen Beruschi. Mayor Mark McKee was the Master of Ceremonies and was in fine form. His performance was well-littered with puns and jokes that everyone enjoyed. David F. Rooney photo
Downie Timber’s Angus Woodman presents Alan with gift. Downie, like many other enterprises has worked closely with Alan on projects such as the Community Energy Project. Unfortunately, Alan did not open that gift in public. David F. Rooney photo
Peter Bernacki helps Alan model the light jacket he gave him. McKee joked that it would be perfect for those moments when he’s on the prow of Peter’s boat while fishing on Upper Arrow Lake in frigid winter months. David F. Rooney photo
And, finally, Alan thanks the crowd for their gifts, kind words and friendship. Alan said he and Janet will remain in Revelstoke. And while he’ll be retired he’ll continue to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our community. Alan also said he would help his successor Nicole Fricot settle in over the next little while.
