Obituary Notice — Lorraine Mary McQuilkan (nee Evans)

Lorraine Mary McQuilkan (nee Evans)
1952 – 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Lorraine Mary McQuilkan (Evans) announce her sudden passing, at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the age of 64 years, following complications from surgery.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Lorraine was born on January 22, 1952, in Bassano, Alberta, to Barry and Grace Evans.  Lorraine received her schooling in Bassano and after graduating, attended Henderson Business College. She then worked at the Royal Bank in Bassano starting in 1971. After saving her money she traveled across Canada to the East Coast and then to BC, where she met Duncan McQuilkan. She married Duncan on May 24, 1974, in Bassano and they both worked in Revelstoke, until moving back to Bassano in 1977, when she returned to work at the Royal Bank.  From 1979 – 1992 she worked at XL Feeds and LK Ranches, a job she loved and did so proficiently.  After leaving LK Ranches, she pursued her love of farming which included her milk cows, nursing orphan calves, chickens and raising pigs.  Duncan and Lorraine always had pet dogs and cats who were so lucky to be part of their family.

Like her mother, Grace, she had a green thumb and a love for gardening.  She found great joy in the simple things in life.  She will be remembered for her incredible memory, love of nature, animals, and most of all family.  Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Barry and Grace Evans, brother Randy Evans, niece Kaitlin Lee and brother-in-law Keith Clyne.  Besides her husband of 42 years, she is also survived by her siblings, Gary (Sheila) Evans of Bassano, Wendy (Gary) Lee of Bassano, and Jody Evans of Calgary; sisters-in-law Heather Clyne of Kamloops and her children Dandi and Leah Beston, Jan (Brian) Kilcullen of Kamloops and their children Ken, Greg, Kevin and Tim Kilcullen and numerous other family members.  She was also a beloved Aunt of Keith (Mindy) Evans and children, Owen, Allie, Madison, and Hannah of Bassano, Carla (Jose) Rabadan and Rosa of Bassano, and Krista Evans of Redcliff, Alberta.

In memory of Lorraine, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Bassano and District Health Foundation, Box 120, Bassano, Alberta,  T0J 0B0.
