Pyjama Drive ensures kids have new PJs, socks and underwear for Christmas

It’s very easy to imagine that all the parents of our community’s children can provide their kids’ most basic clothing needs — pyjamas, socks and underwear, but that is often not the case. More often than we’d like to think, parents’ budgets sometimes get stretched so far that basic needs — especially if they’re out of sight — are postponed. Fortunately, there's a way out of that situation. Alexandra Ast poses with one of the donation boxes set up around town for the Second Annual Christmas Pyjama Drive. This box is at Barton HUB Insurance. The others are at Begbie View Elementary School and the Revelstoke branch of the Okanagan Regional Library. The campaign, which ends on December 12, will gladly accept donations of NEW pyjamas, socks and underwear. Alexandra says the campaign's "focus is children; newborn to 18 years of age. Sadly, even new underwear and PJs can be a major expense for some families at this time of year. David F. Rooney photo

And, too, as adults we sometimes forget that young children can be as swiftly and easily embarrassed as we can be.

Towards that end, last year a group of moms came up with the idea of holding a Pyjama Drive. Generous donors contributed 80 sets of pyjamas that were then distributed through the Community Connections’ Food Bank’s Christmas Hamper Program.

Organizer Alexandra said Revelstokians are invited to donate new pyjamas. Socks and underwear by dropping them off at one of the cmpaign’s three donation boxes located Barton HUB Insurance, Begbie View Elementary School and the Revelstoke branch of the Okanagan Regional Library. Th campaign ends on December 12, will gladly accept donations of NEW pyjamas, socks and underwear for children between the ages of newborns 18 years of age.
