Do you recognize these happy faces? They’re smiling because they have all been nominated as Champions of Literacy by the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy. These selfless volunteers give up their time to assist children and adults learn how to read or promote literacy in some fashion. They were honoured for their efforts during a brief ceremony at Begbie View Elementary School on Thursday evening. The Champions of Literacy nominees were: Amber Thompson, Eileen Harris, June Sedola-Wiley, Grizzly Books Vanessa Smith and Linda Anderson, Ken Baker, Linda Chell, Linda Dickson, Sonia Gagne-Maitre, the Revelstoke Child Care Society, Revelstoke Credit Union, Revelstoke Senior Secondary English Department represented by Tessa Davies, Sandman Inn, Simone Palmer, and Vivian Mitchel. The Champion of Literacy award went to Linda Chell. The Adult Learners were Rachel Dion, Marilyn Salmon, Maimi Im and Steve Jung, Jenise Lamoureux and Gerri Alsemgeest.
