First frontcountry campsite planned for Mount Revelstoke National Park

Nick Irving, superintendent of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks, says Parks Canada plans to build a first-ever frontcountry campsite at the site of the old staff residences, which includes this vehicle garage near the start of the Meadows-in-the-Sky Parkway. Parks Canada is planning to spend $4.5 million on the project. All told, Parks plans a 50-unit campground offering sites for tents, trailers, campers and motorhomes. The old superintendent's house — which is the only remaining house left at the site — may be refurbished as a campers' centre. The federal government is also planning to spend $1.5 million on upgrades to the Rogers Pass Maintenance Compound in Glacier National Park, he said. David F. Rooney photo
