Wright Street will be closed at Victoria Road “on and off till mid-October” starting next Tuesday, August 23, according to Days Inn owner Sam Cho who says he was told this by Speers Construction officials.

“We were visited by two people (from) Speers yesterday morning (Tuesday, August 16) and were advised that they plan to close Wright Street from next Tuesday and it will be on and off till mid-October,” Cho told The Current on Wednesday.

“They propose to make a detour to Wilson Street in between (the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre) and the Days Inn building, and will revert to us after discussions with the City.

He said Speers told him they will keep him, hoteliers William Zhao of the gateway inn and Dean Leman of Monashee Lodge as well as similarly affected businesses such as Zala’s, the Nomad, Animal House and other establishments.

This new level of notification may ease some of the legal pressure on the City.

“We will keep watching the progress and let you know (what is happening),” he said. “From my perspective, I do not expect any requirement to take a lawsuit as long as the new road works for our… guests.”

The status of Leman’s threatened lawsuit is unknown.
