Revelstoke is a very safe community, but don’t kid yourself crime does exist here, RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said in a radio interview on EZ Rock earlier this week.
“In 2008 we had the opening of RMR… we had an increase in call volume,” he said. “The crime rate was reflective of that but it didn’t jump. It didn’t spike.”
Most of it is committed by locals and is relatively low-key
People in Revelstoke are very trusting, Grabinsky said, and they sometimes leave themselves open to exploitation by failing to secure and lock their vehicles and homes.
“Theft is the biggest crime that happens here,” he told EZ Rock’s Shaun Aquiline.
Sleds, skis and bikes are common targets for thieves. There are also occasional domestic assaults and some stranger assaults, Grabinsky.
