Condos for bats

The Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society recently installed a dozen bat houses to provide shelter for the tiny flying mammals in the 22-acre woodland preserve along the north bank of the river. They were constructed at the Visual Arts Centre’s community woodworking shop by Ken Talbot and Marc Paradis (unfortunately not present for this Wednesday, June 8 photo opportunity) and installed by Ward Kemerer and Greenbelt Director Wayne Martin and Adam Cruxhall of BC Hydro (not present). A number of organizations contributed to this project, including BC Hydro (represented by Jennifer Walker-Larsen), the Community Foundation (represented here by Zofie Humphreys) and the Revelstoke Credit Union (represented by Todd Weber). The Kootenay Bat Project was also a major contributor (although it was not represented at this photo opportunity). Greenbelt Director Barb Kemerer and Greenbelt Chairwoman Louisa Fleming are also in this photo David F. Rooney photo
