Can you visualize yourself acting on stage? Taking a bow before an appreciative audience? If you can answer yes to those questions then you may be one of the people the Revelstoke Theatre Company needs for its upcoming production of Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike.
The company is holding auditions for six roles in this very funny farce on January 6 and January 8 at the Community Centre starting at 7 pm each night.
Written by Christopher Durang — Obie Award winner of such rollicking comedies as Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You and The Marriage of Bette & Boo — and directed by Anna Fin this witty farce of our hyperconnected world turns Anton Chekhov on his head. In bucolic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Vanya and Sonia have frittered their lives away in their family’s farmhouse full of regret, angst and the alarmingly ambiguous prophecies of their addled housecleaner Cassandra. Enter their sister, self-absorbed movie star Masha, with her prized 20-something boy toy Spike, and the stage is set for an absurd weekend of general hilarity and global warming.
The Revelstoke Theatre Company is seeking six cast members for the following roles:
- Vanya : Male age 50-60
Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia.
- Sonya : Female age 50-60
Vanya’s step sister. Discontent, upset, regretful.
- Masha : Female age 50-60
Vanya’s sister. Glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.
- Spike : Male age 25-35
Aspiring actor. Sexy, self-absorbed, Masha’s new companion.
- Cassandra : Male or Female age 20-70
House keeper and unusual soothsayer.
- Nina : Female age 20s
Lovely, sincere would-be actress. Star struck and energetic.
The play is tentatively scheduled to be performed April 28, 29, and 30 and May 5, 6 and 7,
