Starting on Wednesday, January 27, the Opt Clinic will be in a new location: the Selkirk Medical Group offices.
That’s the only change in its services. It will continue to have the same hour (7 to 9 pm on Wednesday evenings), same services and the same staff. The Selkirk Medical Group is located downtown on the corner of First Street and MacKenzie Avenue. Access to the Opt Clinic is through the door on First Street and up the stairs.
In a statement, the Opt clinic said is immensely grateful for the support the Community Connections Centre has provided since 2003. For the past 12 years, they have generously offered their space every Wednesday night for the Opt Clinic to provide sexual health services to anyone in Revelstoke. As Community Connections have grown and expanded their programs and space requirements, it became time for Opt to move out.
Fortunately, Selkirk Medical Group stepped in and kindly offered to house the Opt Clinic to ensure dedicated sexual health services remain available to the community. Opt has been operating in Revelstoke for the past 15 years. The first clinic opened in November 2000 and has provided consistent access to sexual health services, serving more than 400 clients in the past year. The Selkirk Medical Group is an ideal environment for the Opt Clinic. While Revelstoke Opt will be using the Selkirk Medical Group’s clinic space, the organizations remain independent.
Opt offers confidential counselling about birth control, pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections testing, and general sexual health information and referrals. The service is provided as walk-in only basis and is free with a B.C. health care card or at low cost if you are from out of province or country. We welcome all ages, all genders, and all orientations. Questions about our clinical services can be directed to revelstokeopt@gmail.com.
