Foundation marks Giving Tuesday with some special cheques

Giving Tuesday is an event widely praised and promoted by Governor General David Johnston. This the second year it has been held and, said the Foundation's Kevin Lavelle, "it's no surprise that it is held after Black Friday and Cyber Monday," two of the most heavily commercialized days of the year. Community Foundation Chairwoman Tracy Spannier poses with this year’s recipients of the Foundation’s generosity through its Smart and Caring Campaign on Giving Tuesday, December 1, at the Visitor Information Centre. The Foundation invited Revelstokians to share their thoughts on the meaning of the words Smart and Caring in 50 words or less.  The winners got to donate their cheques to the charities of their choice. Left to right are: Dene Letwin representing the BC Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which received a $500 cheque donated to it by student Gavin Richardson who, unfortunately, could not escape from school for the ceremony; Jackie Morris who is donating her $1,000 cheque to Bear Aware, represented by Sue Davies; and Colette Poirier (right), who is donating her $500 award to the North Columbia Environment Society, represented by Melissa Hemphill.
