The Community Connections Food Bank benefitted hugely from RONA’s annual Christmas Tree Sale and Vic Van Isle’s Christmas on December 19. RONA donated the $387.76 it took in from the tree sale while the Annual Contractors’ Night Silent Auction raised $1,395 and several generous individuals made donations totaling $311.35. VVI added $80.89 tyo make the total donation to the Food Bank a whopping $3,000. Food Bank Manager Patti Larson attended the VVI Christmas Party and posed for a photo with VVI partner Lew Hendrickson (centre) and employee Chris Caslake who split the party’s 50/50 Draw with Patti. That was more than $700. Photo courtesy of Vic Van isle

The CPE Me-to-We students have once again accomplished the wonderful giving tree. In case you aren’t familiar with this magical tree, every year the community here at CPE dedicates their time to providing presents and joy to children that may not receive any this year. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think we were Santa Claus himself. Caption by Haley Callaghan and Zoe Larson

The folks at Hub International have a lot going on these days. They've moved from their old office on First Street East to new spaces beside the Visitor Information Centre on Victoria Road at Campbell Avenue. And they're also acting as a drop-off point for the Community Connections Food Bank this Christmas so you can kill two birds with one stone by dropping off donations of food, personal grooming products or children's toys when you swing by to renew your insurance. In the meantime they wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. David F. Rooney photo

Carol Nakamoto and Edith Rudyk pose with Food Bank Manager Patti Larson and baskets filled with the 170 slippers, mitts and hats Edith knitted for Carol's annual Mitts for Kids Program. Edith is a prodigious and expert knitter who has been using the big needles to create woollens since she was six years old. The Mitts for Kids Program is Carol's own personal project. Every year she sets up donation jars at local businesses and solicits donations from the public. Her annual goal is $900 which finances Edith's efforts to produce hand-knitted wearables for boys and girls up to age 19 . This kind of home-grown program clearly shows that compassion is alive and well in Revelstoke. David F. Rooney photo
