Making a pitch for the Junior Dragons Den at RSS

RSS Principal Greg Kenyon (centre in the red shirt) introduces Shane Aquiline who, as one of the Community Futures Development Corporation's directors, made a pitch to get students thinking about the very real opportunity represented by CFDC's Junior Dragons' Den. Modelled after the extremely popular CBC TV program Dragons' Den, the junior version offers high school and college students in Revelstoke, Castlegar, Nelson and Trail a chance to take an idea, develop a business plan, create a model of their concept and 'sell' it to some real Kootenay Dragons. Participating students will make their initial presentations before a live audience at the Performing Arts Centre. If they get to the finals, they'll find themselves presenting their concept before a TV audience. However, these teens were a really tough sell. None asked to speak with Shaun or Revelstoke CFDC manager Kevin Dorrius after the presentation. Shaun was philosophical about it. "They're teens," he said, adding that there are likely a few students who can appreciate the opportunity but don't necessarily want to admit that in front of their peers. David F. Rooney photo
