As the war in Syria continues and refugees take long and dangerous journeys to safety, community groups in many countries around the world including Canada have organised to try to help refugees or sponsor refugee families.
In Revelstoke, at the September 8th City Council meeting, Mayor Mark McKee announced that “I know a lot of communities around the province are stepping up and taking on that challenge. I am sure there are agencies in Revelstoke that are looking at ways of helping the Syrian refugees.”
Several people in Revelstoke have expressed concern about the crisis and wanted to know how to help. Now a group is starting to form.
The initiative is led by Rana Nelson who is organizing a meeting at the MacPherson Room at the Community Centre on Thursday, October 15th at 7 pm. Any church group or individuals interested in working together to discuss what Revelstoke can do to help is encouraged to attend or send a representative. Together the group will decide how to move forward.
