Let’s simmer the tea pot, the Revelstoke Grizzlies Junior B team ventured up to Columbia Park Elementary for a scrimmage on Wednesday, October 28.
Nine of our Grizzlies took the time out of their own practices to give these youngsters a chance to slap sticks with our local team. Coach Ryan Parent dropped the puck and dusted off his ol’ teaching certificate! “I used to be a PE teacher in another life,” he said. “Running this is like a gym class. It all comes back to you. I remember working hard as a teacher. It’s no easy task”
After our young and possible future Revelstoke Grizzlies wrapped up their five-on 10-off scrimmage they earned free sandwiches provided by Yolanda Barton from our Revelstoke’s Subway restaurant.
Subway and the KIJHL have a partnership called KidSport where Subway will donate $10 to Kids Sport with every goal earned during a power play. This allows kids to apply for funds to play the sport of their choice if their family income is low and they may need a bit of assistance to ensure each kid has a shot to join in and excel at any sport whether it be hockey, baseball or soccer.
The kids at CPE let out a great big cheer when they were asked if that was a giood deal. I suppose a 45-minute break from class to play hockey with the Grizzlies is a lot more fun than memorizing the old multiplication table!
