CPE kids kick off the year with Me to We Club planning and a new dress code

Hi! My name is Haley and I am The Revelstoke Current’s student reporter-photographer at Columbia Park Elementary School. I am here to tell you all about the juicy and exciting things that happen at CPE — things like the Me to We Club and other activities to what kids are thinking about.
I wanted to write about two things this week: the start up of the Me to We Club and what kids think about the new dress code.
This is certainly the season for fundraising and club joining. I am not talking about the kind of clubs that leave kids out. I am talking about clubs like Me To We, the club that everyone can join and everyone can participate in. A club that focuses on helping the earth and community in easy healthy ways. For example, fundraising, donating and taking a stand for the environment.
So far only 14 kids have joined but we are hoping for more as the days go by. We need as many people as possible to help, fundraising is hard work! My teacher, Miss Bouvet, is the club leader. She is trying to score us tickets to We Day. This is a day where a bunch of celebrities come together in a stadium to perform and share interesting stories and fears that they have overcome.

One thing that I am mega excited about is the fact that the dress code has been lifted. In the past we had to wear three finger-width straps for shirts and finger tip-to-the-knee shorts. Now, I can actually wear clothes that look good on me. No more boxy T-shirts and full-length shorts, but we still have to dress with self respect.
It is already Thursday and the bike racks are full. No matter how many times we bike to school we still get the weekly lecture on the importance of saving gas and riding our bikes. In my opinion the teachers should just get the picture that we know about all this stuff and start teaching us fun games like Jenga and Dominos. These may not be life skills but they sure are fun.
On Friday I informally interviewed some of my class mates. They told me how awesome it was that the dress code was lifted and how great the walls in the gym look painted white instead of yellow. They also said how sad it was that they weren’t all together as a full Grade 7 class.
Thanks for letting me fill you in on CPE.
