A pair of thieves caused thousands of dollars damage to the RONA/Glacier Building Supplies store when they broke into it and the Bottle Deport late Friday night, July 31, says RCMP Cpl. Thomas Blakney.
The two — a man and a woman — first broke into the Bottle Depot on Cartier Street in the Industrial Park and stole $30 in cash.
They then crossed the street, cut the metal-wire perimeter fence at RONA and, once inside the compound, smashed a large window giving them access to the interior of the store.
“Once inside, the culprits ransacked the building and located and broke into a safe,” Blakney said in a statement on Sunday, August 2. “They stole an undetermined amount of cash and then stole several tools, which included Makita-brand power tools.”
The man and woman tampered with the store surveillance system and extracted and damaged the computer hard drive. However, the Revelstoke detachment’s forensic experts managed to obtain digital images of the perpetrators in action before they are believed to have fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
The man, a Caucasian, wore shorts, gloves, running shoes, a dark hoodie with a white shirt underneath, a blue cap and glasses. The woman, also a Caucasian, wore a light blue hoodie with dark knicker-style pants and shoes.
The two caused thousands of dollars damage in the hardware store, but nothing in the bottle depot.
“The Revelstoke RCMP are seeking public assistance,” Blakney said. “Please take a close look at the culprits as someone may have observed the couple in the Revelstoke area prior to the break-and-enter.”
