Full steam ahead for the Local Food Initiative

The Local Food Initiative, which became an official non-profit society earlier this summer, is hold its last meeting of the summer on Monday, August 31, at 7 pm at the Community Centre.
This meeting promises to be a very interesting one.
There will be a guest speaker in the form of Dean Strachan, the City’s manager of development services, who will discuss ways to get food-friendly changes into the Official Community Plan and municipal bylaws.
There will be an update on plans to hold this autumn’s Harvestpalooza, discussion about the plans to have a table at the September 12 Farmers’ Market and talk about ways to finance a study of the Community Gardens. That particular project also needs a dedicated volunteer to see it through to fruition. As well, the LFI needs to discuss some housekeeping items such as its hiring policy, contract renewal with landowners, the Vessey Seeds tulip giveaway and other subjects.
