It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ann ( Sheena ) J.R. McMillan on Friday May 15, 2015, after a lengthy illness.
Sheena was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 24, 1926. She immigrated to Canada in August of 1949 with her brother Malcolm Macintyre and found work in her profession as a comptometer operator in Vancouver, BC. It was in Vancouver that she met Jack McMillan, and they married in February of 1952. They resided in Vancouver until 1962 when Jack transferred to Revelstoke with CPR. In the early 1980s when they retired, they decided to move to somewhere with less snow, so they relocated briefly to Burnaby, then Richmond and finally settled in Nanaimo where they loved the climate and the Island in general. Sheena loved to be close to the ocean and their apartment in Nanaimo had an ocean view overlooking Departure Bay.
Sheena had many interests, was an avid reader of books and newspapers alike. She could discuss any topic due to her love of current events. She always had a radio at her bedside tuned to a channel that discussed important issues. Sheena had a great sense of humor and a sharp wit.
Sheena was proud to be a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, which she joined in Glasgow when she turned 18.
Left to miss her are her husband Jack , her daughter Carol ( Randy ) Knecht, Grandchildren , Kristi ( Dominic ) Charlie, Kaylee Knecht ( Jesse Booth ), Robert Knecht and Great Grandson Reid Charlie.
There will be no formal service at Sheena’s own request.
