News you can use

How can you beat this? You can head down to the Regent’s River City Pub and Patio this evening, Friday June 5, down a couple of beers, enjoy some tunes and help raise money to assist the desperate people in post-earthquake Nepal.
Prompted by her natural generosity and desire to help out, Deanne Berarducci, who recently returned from Nepal, organized this little fundraiser.
“Why did I go? Because I love the children,” she told The Current.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to travel and see parts of the world that I would never get to see otherwise. The children are the main reason, they open their hearts and homes to you, the have very little in their lives but are also very happy at the same time… all I know is I am doing what I am meant to be doing.”
Deanne has built a Facebook page that is loaded with photos and videos. Check it out.

The third annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day happens this year on Saturday, June 6, in Mount Revelstoke National Park. Families are invited to bring their bikes to the historic Nels Nelsen area to bike the 2-km and 5-km Soren Sorensen trails, enjoy partner booths with bike safety information and ride a bicycle obstacle course for the younger children.
The event is free with a national park pass and runs from noon to 4 p.m.
“It’s a great opportunity for families to connect to their local national park while enjoying the outdoors and supporting healthy activities,” said a statement from Parks Canada.
Through initiatives like this, Parks Canada is supporting Canada’s National Conservation Plan by taking concrete action to connect Canadians to nature.
