If you are concerned about the proliferation of invasive species you may want to attend an upcoming forum on alien plants and animals in Salmon Arm on Thursday, May 28.
The Invasive Species Forum is being hosted by Wetlands Alliance with keynote speaker Robyn Hooper of the Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS). Other speakers include Catherine Tarasoff, an adjunct professor with Thompson Rivers University’s Natural Resources Department, and representatives from the Shuswap Trail Alliance, White Lake Stewards and the Switzmalph Cultural Society. Speakers will discuss local invasive species issues, community initiatives for tackling these problems, and the effective, eco-friendly techniques used to manage these pesky invaders.
“The Columbia Shuswap region is highly interconnected with our freshwater lakes and rivers, we cannot afford to risk our water quality and ecosystem health when dealing with invasive species,” CSISS Program Assistant Laura Gaster said in a statement. “CSISS and our local community partners are looking forward to sharing some of our local experience with controlling invasive plants in our parks and backyards.”
This event takes place on Thursday, May 28, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Deo Lutheran Church, located at 1801-30th St. NE in Salmon Arm. Refreshments to follow.

For more information about this event or to book a presentation, please contact info@columbiashuswapinvasives.org.
