Elks help local kids through the library

Community Librarian Kendra Runnalls and her assistants, Lucie Bergeron, Susan Knight and Gabriella Dabroczi pose with Revelstoke Elks President George Hopkins and past presidents Jack Carten and Clancy Boettger, and some of the many children — all members of Sonia Maitre’s Kindergarten class from Begbie View Elementary — who benefit, in one way or another, from the Elks financial generosity. The three men dropped by the Revelstoke Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library on Thursday morning, May 14, to donate $500 for its children’s programs. The Elks are also generous donors to medical and recreational programs for kids but really, really, really need new blood. They have only 14 active members, most of whom are seniors. Without younger men the Elks will follow clubs like the Lions and Moose that have vanished because they could not attract new members. David F. Rooney photo
