A public concert at Woodenhead Park

The MidSun Grade 9 Band from Calgary will be performing publicly at Woodenhead Park on Saturday, May 30, at 1 pm. Director Scott Campbell told The Current that the band, shown here during a previous concert at the park, has been touring the Interior since the school was founded in 1999. “Over the years, we have built a tremendous relationship with many of the businesses and tourist stops along the way,” he said. “Our home base for our tour is Salmon Arm. Each day we travel out to perform in a variety of venues, from seniors’ homes, to elementary schools and parks. We will also be visiting the Revelstoke Dam, Revelstoke Railway Museum, the Last Spike and the Kettle Valley Railway, among other stops.” The school’s music program consists of 270 students in three concert bands and two jazz bands. Campbell said the bands have won many awards including top Concert Band at the Alberta International Band Festivals in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2014. This year’s group is extremely talented and enthusiastic. “We’ll be performing a wide variety of concert band music, from pop, jazz, movie music, classical and even some zydeco,” Campbell said. It should be a nice, sunny day so come on down and enjoy the music. Photo courtesy of the MidSun Music Program
