City launches its new SeeClickFix Mobile App

The City has launched its new program permitting residents to report quality-of-life issues and request municipal services through the SeeClickFix online and mobile app.
This innovative place-based reporting platform allows residents to “document neighborhood concerns and improvements alike, ranging from litter and flooding to damaged sidewalks and malfunctioning street lights,” said a statement released by City Hall on Monday, March 23.
The statement quoted Mayor Mark McKee, who is currently in China on a long-planned vacation, as saying the “initiative fits in perfectly with Council’s objective of improving communications with the citizens of our community.”
Residents can download the mobile applications at http://www.seeclickfix.com/accounts/651/enhanced_watch_areas/841/mobile_buttons and can then submit and track their reports from the City of Revelstoke website directly at http://www.cityofrevelstoke.com/index.aspx?nid=332.
The app allows any resident to report quality-of-life concerns using mobile applications via an iPhone or Android phone, a Facebook app or through SeeClickFix.com.
“When submitting issues via mobile app, for example, residents can provide locational, descriptive, and photographic information as they see the issue in real time,” the statement said. “Once the resident submits an issue, the City and anyone watching the area will receive an alert. The City can then acknowledge the service request, route it to the proper department, and update the request (as well as residents following the issue) once it’s been resolved.”
The statement from City Hall noted that this technology effectively makes residents actual partners with the City and even allows them to create their own “watch areas” to receive notifications about all issues reported in their neighbourhood, enabling them to follow the progress of all service requests — not just the ones they report.
Launched in 2008, SeeClickFix allows citizens, community groups, media organizations, and governments to work together to improve neighborhoods. It is the most widely distributed citizen-reporting tool in the country, having recently surpassed 1 million issues. SeeClickFix supports the Open311 standard that promotes improved communication between local municipalities and the citizens they serve. The platform is fun and easy to use for citizens, while being inexpensive and easily adaptable for governments. Over 60 percent of issues reported on SeeClickFix are ultimately resolved.
