Is there a particular business in town that you think is truly family-friendly?
If so, you can help them get the recognition they deserve by filling out the Early Childhood Development Committee nomination form for the annual Family Friendly Business Award.
Tracy Spannier, the committee’s Early Years Coordinator, nominations are open until February 6.
Among the factors you should consider are:
- Providing a welcoming layout and amenities;
- Public washroom and change table;
- Space to rest or breastfeed;
- Play area, children’s books and clean, quiet toys; and
- Easy access for strollers.
“Let us know about a business that is doing a great job welcoming your family or supporting you as an employee,” she said in a statement Tuesday morning, February 3. “While there will be one winner, we will let all nominated businesses know that they were nominated and what they are doing well.”
A family-frendly workplace, she said, should have policies that have flexible work schedules, parental sick leave and that allow employees to balance their work and family lives.
