Jazz fans have a new place to call home

Jazz aficionados have a new place to gather to play and listen to jazz groups from Revelstoke and the surrounding area. Bob Rogers, trombone virtuoso and band teacher in the local school district, has approached Brady Beruschi  for the use of the Selkirk Room at the Regent.
Performances will be on the second Friday of the month, from 7 – 9 pm. Coming on February 13 is Gypsy Jazz from Salmon Arm.
Rogers says the impetus behind the idea came about from his experience playing at jazz clubs in Vernon and Salmon Arm, both of which are run by groups of volunteers and present music by local and out of town jazz groups to very appreciative and supportive audiences. He thought it would be great to do the same thing here, to feature local jazz musicians and also bring in a few groups from out of town as well. Jordan Dick, a guitarist who often plays with Rogers , books the bands for the Salmon Arm Jazz club.
He suggested that groups playing in Vernon and Salmon Arm might be interested in filling up their tour schedules by doing a night in Revelstoke as well.
Brady Beruschi at the Regent Hotel has been very supportive of this endeavour, giving the club the use of the Selkirk Room, a nice intimate setting. The hotel provides bar service, and the jazz society charges admission by donation rather than a cover charge, to pay the musicians.
To this point the club schedule is as follows;

  • February 13 — Gypsy Jazz from Salmon Arm
  • March 13 — Relative Jazz from Revelstoke
  • April 10 — Back Alley Jazz from Revelstoke

The club is also considering adding a couple of dates to feature touring groups that may be in the area. Stay tuned!
