A four-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Canyon Hot Springs on Friday afternoon, January 2, has killed one woman and left two other people in critical condition; it has also severed that route for several hours.
A very brief statement from the Revelstoke RCMP said little else and noted that its investigation of the accident, which occurred at 2:30 pm, is only in its initial stages. An update will be forthcoming sometime over the coming hours. The victims were evacuated by air ambulance.
According to Drive BC an update is expected at 8:30 pm. and the highway is probably going to remain closed until sometime between 9 pm and midnight.
“The Information Centre is not open at this time due to renovations within the building,” executive director Judy Goodman said in an e-mail alert issued by the Chamber of Commerce.
She also asked members who have accommodation available to send a detailed e-mail to executive@revelstokechamber.com or a text to 250-814-7231 and “we will facilitate reservations as best that we can. We do not have any plan to open alternative accommodation at this time.”
This is the second fatal accident on the highway in a week. The other, on December 27, also closed the TCH.
