Twelve members of the Revelstoke Junior Squash Team traveled to Vernon for the BC Interior Squash Championships this past weekend and achieved some great results. The tournament featured 38 Junior squash players from clubs in Revelstoke, Kelowna and Vernon.
Revelstoke players fared extremely well. Austin DesMazes won the Boys U11, and Amelia Brown Won the Girls U13/15 Division. They are both BC Interior Champions.
In the Boys U15 division, Tettey Tettey finished 2nd, Conner McCabe finished 3rd and Julia Dorrius (competing with the boys) finished 4th, out of the draw of 10 players. Sophie Dorrius finished 3rd in the Girls U13/U15 and was the top finishing U13 Girl. Ryan Howe finished 3rd in the Boys U11. Ryan and Austin had an unbelievable 5 game, extra points required, war in the semi-finals. Josh Larsen, Aiden McCabe, and Samantha Brown, Kaity Herle and Tristain Herle also competed and advance well in the draws. It should be noted that Kaity and Tristain Hurle have only been playing squash for seven weeks, and did very well at the tournament, winning two matches each.
The team is now working hard, getting ready for the BC Junior Open in Vancouver on January 16 to 18. This will be another very tall test for the team as that tournament will feature many of the top players in Western Canada.
