Mark McKee and five of Revelstoke’s new City Councillors — Linda Nixon, Scott Duke, Trevor English, Aaron Orlando and Gary Sulz — were sworn in as our new political leaders on Monday, December 1. Councillor-elect Connie Brothers was out of the country and will have to be sworn in when she returns.
“Running in an election is not something everyone does and is not be taken lightly,” McKee said once he and the new Council members had been sworn in by Robert Lundberg and taken their seats at the Council table. “It shows a strong commitment to your community and its well-being.
“I encourage everyone that was involved in the election to stay involved in the community; the community needs you.”
He also thanked former Mayor Raven and former Councillors Scarcella, Welock, Starling, Johnston and Bender for their service to the people of Revelstoke. None of them were present for the swearing-in ceremony. Despite their absence, the public gallery was crowded with members of the public and City staff.
After the new mayor’s brief remarks, the new Council approved appointments to the City’s committees and other groups.
