The Revelstoke RCMP, Fire Rescue Service, BC Ambulance Service, HMC and tow and flagging companies responded to a fatal two-truck accident that occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway at approximately 8:45 pm on Monday evening, November 24.

“At 8:45 pm a commercial tractor trailer super B semi was West-bound when the last trailer jack-knifed and crossed into oncoming traffic,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said in a statement. “An East-bound semi struck… (it) at the axles, causing major damage, and serious injury to the East-bound driver… (who) died at the scene of the incident. There were only single occupants of both vehicles. No names are being released until all family are notified.”

An RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene to examine the roadway and vehicles. The BC Coroner Service is involved and attended the scene over night.

The incident happened 20 km west of Revelstoke and resulted in the Trans-Canada Highway being closed for more than 10 hours. Currently, the tow companies are still actively removing the trucks and trailers from the roadway. One unit was hauling cut lumber and this load is all over the road. Fuel spills are being addressed.

All drivers are encouraged to check DriveBC for updates on highway conditions. Commercial drivers are encouraged to slow down and to drive according to changing winter conditions, Grabinsky said.
