The Third Annual Welcome Week Community Dinner was held at the United Church on Mackenzie Avenue on Sunday, November 23.
Dinner consisted of a delicious feast of homemade lasagna and Caesar salad thanks to Glen Cherlet of Begbie BBQ. Entertainment was provided by Dan Sculnick & Drew Payne, who form the band 45 Minutes. At a cost of $5 per plate ($2 for small children), it was an amazing deal, and a bit surprising that the whole city didn’t come out! In the end, 80 adults and ten children attended.
We were greeted warmly at the front door by four lovely young volunteers from the Stoke Youth Network. Inside the festively decorated church basement you could find newcomers to the city as well as long-time residents such Alan and Linda Chell, Jill Zacharias, members of the Stovel family and even newly elected Councillors Aaron Orlando and Trevor English.
All in all, it was a fun night, and a good way to kick off Revelstoke’s Third Annual Welcome Week. Get out and enjoy what your city has to offer! And don;t miss the Volunteer Fair and Spirit of Revy Awards at the Community Centre on Wednesday afternoon, November 26.
Leftovers from the event went to the Women’s Shelter, United Church Soup and a Smile, and other charities.
Here is a selection of photos and photo-collages from the event:
