Getting a piece of the past

School Board Trustee Jeff Nicholson got Museum Curator Cathy English to dash through the rain to meet him on the steps of historic Mountain View School on Friday, October 31, by offering her something she could not resist: a large clock that used to keep time in MVE's staff room. The time piece was manufactured by IBM back in the 1950s. Hundreds of items large and small are on offer during an all-day Saturday, November 1, monster garage sale in MVEs gymnasium on Second Street West. David F. Rooney photo

Poor old Mountain View Elementary. It looks a little sad as it's being pared down to its original two-storey structure by Clearview Grinding. If yu want a keepsake — perhaps a child's desk or some lighting — you should head down to the school gymnasium on Saturday, November 1, for the monster garage sale being held to get rid of old equipment. Don't worry all you moms: the Mountain View Elementary School's playground isn't being demolished. But it is too close to the action as other structures at the school are being ripped away. David F. Rooney photo
