Beware computer repair scams

The Mounties are advising residents to be cautious when receiving calls from individuals or companies that offer to repair your computer.

A statement from Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said there has been a recent rash of these types of incidents in Revelstoke where the caller provides the serial number to your computer and offers to repair it for a fee. These have proven to be scams each time. The person is only seeking a credit card number to charge a large sum of money to your account. These are not legitimate businesses. Only trust your computer with an appropriate and legitimate business, preferably approved by the Chamber of Commerce or the Better Business Bureau. Only ever provide your credit card number to those persons you trust. If in doubt, contact the police.

If you have provided your credit card information to these types of callers please contact the police as well your credit card company and advise them of the incident.

Revelstoke RCMP ask that anyone with further information regarding this kind of incident contact the detachment at 250-837-5255. You should also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) if you have knowledge of any crimes.
