St. Francis Catholic Church apple pie sales top 1,100

I don’t know about you, but in my books there’s nothing like an apple pie pulled hot from the oven.

Every year in October I look forward to the home-made pies baked at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church by dozens of cheerful volunteers.

Every year I buy 10 pies, pop them in the freezer and pull them out when I want to serve something home-made for dessert but just don’t have time to make it myself. I’m not alone. Volunteer Marilyn Carefoot said that some of these pies go as far as Vernon and Chilliwack.

By noon on Wednesday, October 8, 1,115 pies had been spoken for and the ladies in the kitchen were still making more to accommodate the waiting list. Volunteer Sharon McCrae thinks the final sales will be closer to 1200. At $10 a pie, that’s a good fundraiser.
