SAM2 Scrap Arts visits the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre

Revelstoke students had a chance to make music with some wild and peculiar instruments last week when Scrap Arts Music, British Columbia’s internationally acclaimed invented-instrument percussion company, brought their SAM2 in Schools program to the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre.

The company, led by composer and instrument designer Gregory Kozak, handcrafts their instruments using recycled and salvaged materials. Students from Begbie View Elementary, Columbia Park Elementary, Arrow Heights Elementary and Revelstoke Secondary got to try out some of the instruments during workshops then were treated to a lively, imaginative performance.

Here’s a look at one of the workshops where Grade 11 and 12 students from Revelstoke Secondary learned to make their recycling make music:
