An interview with Council Candidate Gary Starling

Gary Starling has impressed many people with his thoughtful, no-nonsense approach to the issues that come before City Council. He’s the kind of guy who, if you take a specific concern to him, will look into it and, if he thinks it’s a righteous matter will bring it to the Council table. David F. Rooney photo

Gary Starling has impressed many people with his thoughtful, no-nonsense approach to the issues that come before City Council.

He’s the kind of guy who, if you take a specific concern to him, will look into it and, if he thinks it’s a righteous matter will bring it to the Council table.

Not all Councillors do that. Gary does not take very many things for granted and always pushes for rational consideration of the various issues that Council scrutinizes. He’s also very up front about Council’s failures and successes.

Gary was very active with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and later Teamsters when he worked as an engineer for the CPR. He was their legislative rep for about 12 years and secretary-treasurer for five years. He was also secretary-treasurer for the union’s provincial branch for four years. All that experience helped groom him for the responsibilities he now bears as a City Councillor.

This video will give you a very clear idea of who Gary Starling is and what he thinks.
