A Sunday morning bike ride yielded a lot of cash and a small mystery for young Karsyn Powell (left) and Sani Supinen.

“We were out biking (at the corner of Front and King Streets) and then Sani told us to stop,” Karsyn said. “There were all these envelopes and things and one of them had a lot of money in it.”

The girls gathered up the envelopes and receipts, which had been outdoors long enough for motorists to have driven over them, and took them to Karsyn’s home on Douglas Street.

Her mom and dad, Shawn Fillipchuk and Dylan Powell, examined their discovery and counted the cash — $400.

They swiftly realized the receipts and envelopes had originated at Helios Rehabilitation and Performance, which is located about six blocks away.

“We phone and left a message but we haven’t heard back,” Shawn told The Current. “We’ll call them tomorrow if we don’t hear back.”

She said she was very proud of the girls for doing the right thing.

“It’s quite a little mystery,” she said. “It almost looks as though they fell out of a vehicle of some kind and just landed in the street.”

Shawn said she’ll contact Helios promptly on Monday morning.
