A small group of people gathered on the bank of the Columbia River on Wednesday afternoon to honour the waterway with a prayers and songs. Heavily dammed, the Columbia is the subject of treaty discussions in Canada and the United States. The outcome of those discussions is still far in the future. The river, meanwhile, is stressed and the creatures and forests that depend upon it are often under threat. Perhaps a few more prayers are in order from all of us. David F. Rooney photo
