In Pictures: Homecoming 2014 — Sunday!

By David F. Rooney

After two days jam-packed with things to do, see and hear, the final day of Homecoming 2014 was pretty easy, aside from the Dirty Feet Race at Mount MacPherson, Sunday, August 17, focused on the Family Picnic at Williamson’s Lake and the Heritage Home Tour.

I’m waiting on numbers — specifically, the numbers of people who registered for Homecoming and the number of people who crowded into Revelstoke’s hotels, motels and other accommodation providers. I don’t expect to see those numbers until Monday at the earliest and while I believe this three-day event was terrific for all concerned, I won’t hazard a guess as to the number of registrants. Having said that, however, I will say that my estimate of 1,500 downtown on Saturday afternoon was correct and later that evening there could well have been somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 later that evening.

In the meantime, here are the last few photos from this memorable weekend:

If you were out and about early Sunday morning, perhaps on your way out for a quick cycle around town or a run you might have crossed the Big Eddy Bridge, which looked like a bridge to the Twilight Zone at 8 am. David F. Rooney photo

The Community Child Care Resource and Referral program sponsored a family event at Williamson's Lake as its contribution to Homecoming 2014. It wasn't as jammed as we anticipated but it was early days yet when this photo was taken at about noon. Ah! Williamson's Lake! It is one of the perfect places you can be when it's hot and muggy.
