Arts Council has a terrific lineup of performances for you

The Revelstoke Arts Council has unveiled a dynamic series of events for the Performing Arts Centre this autumn, starting with the legendary band, Spirit of the West.

Spirit of the West inaugurates the cultural performance season on Thursday, September 11, at 7:30 pm.

Spirit of the West has 13 albums to their credit, five of them gold and three platinum, a history of extensive touring throughout the western world and the authorship of a drinking song —Home For a Rest — that is so well known and loved it is sometimes called Canada’s unofficial national anthem. This concert by the 31-year-old band is a must-see event.

Two days later, on Saturday, September 11, you’ll want to explore the nexus of magic, comedy and vaudeville with James Jordan’s one-man vaudeville variety extravaganza and Ryan Pilling’s comedy magic show. Wrestling fans will be ready to hit the mat at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 17, when three-time WWE Champion and Hall of Famer Mick Foley brings his wit and wisdom to the Performing Arts Centre. The author of five self-penned New York Times bestsellers will wow you with his one-man spoken-word stage show, Tales From Wrestling Past. Please click here to view a YouTube video of Mick.

From that height, the Chamber of Commerce wishes to whirl you to another with the arrival of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour on Thursday and Friday, September 18 and 19, at 7 pm. Tickets

The Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce is excited to bring The Best of Banff Mountain Film Festival 2014 World Tour to the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre. Come and check out two evenings of exciting, original films and prepare to be inspired! Tickets are $20 for one night and $30 for 2 nights. The Revelstoke Multicultural Society’s Movies in the Mountains series kicks off on Wednesday, September 24, at 7:30 pm with The Lunchbox. Ritesh Batra’s film chronicles an unlikely romance that erupts from a mistaken lunchbox delivery. Whether it’s the cooking of a meal, the reading of a letter, or the riding of a crowded train, the film’s small moments culminate in big impact. In a word: enchanting. The Lunchbox was a popular feature at the Toronto International Film Festival.

If you enjoy eclectic music you’ll certainly like The paperboys, who take the stage at 7:30 pm on Friday, October 3.This award winning, critically acclaimed band serves up a heady blend of country-folk-Celtic-bluegrass-rock with a traditional bit of Mexican music thrown in there for good measure. The Black Dog String Quartet will dial it down a bit with their Mozart to Modern classical music series on Thursday, October 16, at 7:30 pm. These fabulous musicians explore the classic and modern works written for strings and oboe from Wolfgag Amadeus Mozart to Phillip Glass.

Movies in the Mountains returns on Wednesday, October 29, with the 7:30 pm showing of Like Father Like Son. Directed by Hirokazu Kore-Eda, this poignant drama tells the heart-wrenching story of two sets of parents whose worlds are turned upside down when they learn that their six-year-old sons were switched at birth.
