New start-up, Flexpeditions, is serving up outdoor adventure

Amy Flexman is discovering that nothing beats gong into business for yourself — especially if you’re doing something you truly enjoy.

Her company, Flexpeditions, offers affordable outdoor adventure packages for teens and adults that will take them rafting, mountain biking, kayaking and rock climbing. She even offers an outdoor music camp.

“I’m an outdoor girl and I’m at that stage in my life where I want to do the things that make me happy,” Amy said in an interview last week.

“I’m a guide and I know what makes a good trip and a bad trip.”

And, boy, does she have some fine activities lined up for this month:

July 2Introduction to rock climbing$50
July 3-5Book your corporate retreat or work group outing for 1 – 3 days!
July 7-11Teen outdoor multi-sport trip – raft, climb, mountain bike, SUP, sea kayak (overnighter) & hike$525
July 14-18Mountain bike trip with Wandering Wheels and Sol Mountain guides$625
July 22-26Outdoor Music Camp$525

And that’s just in July. Upcoming events include: A Fall Teen Leadership Summit, September 17-18; a High School Invitational Adventure Race, September 19; the Revelstoke Outdoor Adventure Race, September 20; and programs for March break.

A teacher, Amy believes young people can learn a lot about themselves and develop self-confidence through outdoor challenges and she offers certification courses in white water rescue techniques, wilderness first aid and non-urban emergency care.  Programs for Grade 7 Leadership and Grad Trips,
High School Leadership Trips, and
Local and International PE/OE Leadership Credits are also available.

“We will talk to you about who your class is or what your group’s needs are and put together a customized trip to fit your group and your schedule,” she says. “This includes day trips, overnights, multi-day, camping, hiking, biking, paddling, canoeing, leadership initiatives, team building, fun, exploration, etc – the sky is the limit, we’ll plan something that fits you!”

Amy has built a team of guides who will ensure that every expedition is a memorable one. Working with her are Jim Coffey, Chris Ford, Collette Poirier, Christian Foster, Danny Peled, Alex Sirman-Smith, Geoff Stewart and Angus McLean Wilson.

She is also a huge enthusiast for everything Revelstoke and hopes her small startup will resonate with local residents and out-of-towners seeking energetic challenges in our local mountains and rivers. And some not-so-local ones, as well. Every year Amy hopes to offer a trip to Argentina to paddle rivers in the rugged southern half of that country with Paddle Patagonia.

“It’s all coming together,” she said.
