Mounties searching for missing boaters on Kinbasket Lake

Mounties and Revelstoke Search and Rescue personnel are searching for two missing boaters on Kinbasket Lake.

“The males were in a 12-foot aluminum fishing boat and have not been seen since (Monday, July 7),” Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said in a statement released on Tuesday.

“BC Hydro and contract employees scoured the shoreline and surrounding roadways over the night. Revelstoke RCMP and Revelstoke Search and Rescue attended by helicopter to the area at approximately 5:30 am on July 8… and conducted an extensive aerial patrol of the area.”

Over 100 square kilometres were searched without any sign of the boat or the two men. They later searched by boat but did not see any sign of the missing unnamed men who are both approximately 60 years of age and are from Osoyoos and Mission. They are both contract employees working at the Mica Dam.

Kinbasket Lake is a vast water reservoir that is a flooded valley. The depths near the dam are up to 600 feet currently and the shoreline is very steep.

The statement said the search would continue on Wednesday by air and water.
