Mounties’ missing-boaters search yields some debris, personal effects but no bodies

The search for two missing boaters on Kinbasket Lake intensified on Wednesday after searchers found “debris and personal effects (that) have washed up,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky told The Current on Wednesday afternoon, July 9.

He said the Mounties, Revelstoke Search and Rescue and BC Hydro have boats on the water as well as a helicopter but no bodies have yet been found.

That could change on Thursday as RCMP divers arrive to plumb the search for the two men from Mission and Osoyoos who went missing in a 12-foot aluminum fishing boat on Monday on this large reservoir behind the Mica Dam.

“It is a very deep space, probably 500 or 600 feet in the area in question and we are continuing to search,” Grabinsky said.

More than 100 square kilometres have already been searched but neither the boat nor the two men — or their bodies — have been found.
