Greg Austin, director of operations at the Golf Course, and Taylor Pearcy from the Pro Shop raised more than $1,000 for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) by playing more than 144 holes of golf on June 30.

They started at 4:30 am and they continued golfing until dark, Club President Heather Duchman said in an e-mail to The Current.

The two men will receive a personal thank you for their efforts on Monday, July 14, at 3:45 pm from Wendy Toyer, executive director of the ALS Society of BC. She is travelling around the province expressing her gratitude to all the golfers who participated in this annual event.

The North Columbia Environmental Society has a couple of great events coming up — the Garden & Art Tour on Saturday, July 26, from 1 pm until 6 pm and the Midsummer Nights Green: farm to table dinner at Terra Firma Farms on Saturday, August 9.

The Garden & Art Tour is offers you a chance to tour a number of Revelstoke’s hidden gardens and discover the creative talent of local artists displaying/playing/creating their work within those same gardens.

Maps of the gardens and artwork will be available the day of the event. They can be picked up at the Downtown Community Garden (located at the United Church) on July 26 starting at 12:30 pm.  While there is no admission fee for this event people who want to tour the gardens and see the art are asked to consider a suggested donation of $5 per person.

Wine pairings will be courtesy of Blasted Church Vineyards, there will also be micro-brewery beer from Mt. Begbie Brewery and herb-infused cocktails served to the tempo of live jazz provided by Back Alley Jazz and other local musicians. There will also be a silent auction.

All funds from this event go towards funding the NCES community gardens, school programs and other food security initiatives.

Cocktails and appetizers will be offered to guests beginning at 4:30 pm. There will be a garden tour starting at 5.

Tickets are $80 and are available at www.northcolumbia.org, at La Baguette and at Big Mountain Kitchen and Linen.
