Oh, Nelli, you will be missed

Nelli Richardson, for decades a hard-working and well-respected member of the community is one step closer to retirement after she formally stepped down from her post as Chairwoman of the City's Social Development Committee. In the photo on top she poses with her successor as the Committee chairman, Craig T. Brown, Community Connections executive director (left), and the new vice-chairman Mike Hooker, superintendent of SD 19. Nelli never missed a meeting of the committee and did not have a vice-chair. Over the last couple of decades Nelli has served as a School Trustee, City Councillor, Social Development Committee Chairwoman and Executive Director of the Women's Shelter. All too soon she will also be standing down as the executive director of the Women's Shelter. Meanwhile, her friends and admirers in the community gathered at the Revelstoke Art Gallery to praise her. The bottom photo shows her accepting a bouquet of flowers from Social Development Coordinator Jill Zacharias. David F. Rooney
