A vehicle travelling at high speed on the section of the Trans-Canada Highway passing through Revelstoke at 2:30 am on Friday, May 9, quite naturally attracted the attention of local Mounties who stopped it. The vehicle was later determined to contain a large quantity of marijuana. A total of 18.5 lbs of marijuana was seized, with an estimated street value of $37,000. The vehicle was travelling east-bound with an unknown destination in the Prairie provinces. The Revelstoke RCMP frequently encounter large movements of marijuana through the community and appreciate that by locating these drugs that a large number of persons are spared from the harmful effects of drug usage and the criminal element that is connected to it.
