United Church fundraiser was delicious

About 40 people attended the fundraising dinner for the United Church held on Friday, April 25.

The Bygone Era Entertainment Society stepped in to help by showing films that included the 1933 Laurel & Hardy comedy, Dirty Work, and a 1948 Tom & Jerry cartoon entitled Coal in the House. Cat and mouse also clean a tower clock in the 1937 cartoon, Clock Cleaners,, while Merlin introduces dental hygiene to his toothless knights in a short flick from 1970.

Dinner — ham, scalloped potatoes, salad and veggies — was great and BEES also provided door prizes that included three DVDs of classic movies and movie passes. Here are a few photos from the event:

Gathered in groups of five or six, church members had a great time chatting with friends. Besides the delicious meal prepared by the United Church ladies, guests looked forward to an evening of vintage films presented by the Bygone Era Entertainment Society after the meal. David F. Rooney photo

Ah! The movies — vintage ones, in fact — provided by David Evans of the Nickelodeon Museum and the Bygone Era Entertainment Society. The flicks included a 1933 Laurel and Hardy movie and a Tom & Jerry cartoon as well as other oldies. BEES also provided passes to upcoming BEES movie presentations and DVDs of classic films like King Kong and Cleopatra for draws during the fundraising dinner. David F. Rooney photo
