Multicultural Society celebrates four years of success

The Revelstoke Multicultural Society celebrated its fourth anniversary with an annual general meeting and terrific potluck supper at the United Church on Wednesday, April 2.

Founded in 2010 by a group of nine volunteers, the society promotes cultural awareness, appreciation and inclusiveness by celebrating our multicultural heritage and diversity. It creates opportunities to learn about and appreciate cultures here and afar and promotes community planning and services that support the integration of newcomers and embrace the needs of all ethnicities and cultures. The society organizes the hugely popular Carousel of Nations every February as well as the Movies in the Mountains Series shown at the Performing Arts Centre.

Here are some photos from the event:

Laura Stovel talkis with graphic designer Rachel Petrie and her friend Jason Schneider about the new display about the history of racism in Revelstoke. Laura researched and wrote the text for the six display panels and Rachel designed them. As a note of interest, Laura also created the first racism display that was shown for many years at the Revelstoke Museum & Archives. These new panels were unveiled at the AGM and are now on display at the Revelstoke branch of the Okanagan Regional Library. David F. Rooney
