Fire burns truck passenger

The 29-year-old driver of this truck escaped without injury when his cab caught fire shortly after midnight5 on Friday, March 28, but his 32-year-old passenger wasn't so lucky. The RCMP said he suffered serious burns to the lower portion of his body and was send to Queen Victoria Hospital where he was treated and then sent on to the burn unit at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops where he is listed in stable condition. The driver suffered minor burns and cuts duriung the fire, which occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway about 10 kilometres east of town. The Mounties do not know how the fire started but they said in a statement that they think it began in the cab and quickly spread through the vehicle. The fire remains under investigation.
