Equestrian questions at the library

Laurie Henshaw’s Grade 5 class learned about the sport of western horseback riding today at the library. Tanya Secord (left, background), who has recently begun a therapeutic riding program for children with special needs, spoke to the Begbie View Elementary School children about how caring for and riding horses are a great form of physical therapy for children with disabilities. Tracy Ludwig (right, back) spoke about such western riding techniques as barrel racing, pole bending, and cutting – all of which she has both participated in (at a national competitive level) and taught for many years. Tanya and Tracy are both members of the Selkirk Saddle Club. Kendra Runnalls photo
